I’d go for speed and boar.
That said, there are uses for pets w/ area attacks. An area-attacking pet allows you, when an add gets on you, to simply move up to the area of your pets AoE – and the add gets pulled easily onto the pet. It also makes it easier to fight 2+ mobs at once – you can actually multi-shoot (at least w/ screech) and often not pull agro off the extras. The drawback of an AoE pet skill is that it disrupts cc and pulls unwanted adds. So – best for soloing.
That said – well, I have an old hunter in the 20s w/ a boar and carion bird in his stable, about the same lvl. I’ve run some experiments. Both pets do great. Even in multi-target situations, the boar does fine. I just can’t multishot and expect to not have the extra target(s) come at me. But that’s ok if I have a freeze trap at my feet. Fights go about the same. I can also move who the pig is attacking and manage agro that way. That said, the carion bird is a little easier for multi-target fights. But the boar works. And he’s fast to target – the bird at that lvl is not.
Notice, the damage component is really unimportant. At that level a stomp doing a few hundred is no big deal, imo. Well, times 1000 fights, maybe it is. But the time saving is lost given that your gorilla gets no dash and is slow to move to target.
The area attackers are:
Birds/bats – screech.
Gorillas – jungle stomp.
Dragonhawks – halitosis – er, fire breath.
Screechers are in most hunters’ minds the kings of AoE – as there is a belief that Screech has an agro component to it (does it for real? I can’t remember, but I think it might). Carion bird is the best stat-wise for – being medium, bite/claw enabled, can dive – eats meat and fish.
Owls only claw. Bats get bite. Owls eat just meat. Bats have a flakey diet.
Gorillas – pay attention to what Calabar said – he’s right on the money.
Dragonhawks – the low lvl ones are caster-stat gimped (see petotia for more info on this) – and there are no options between lvl 8 or so and lvl 63ish. That said, their area attack is good. But it’s a cone in front of them and not a radius attack (or is it – I’d like to find out more on this). Medium, diet is… meat and fish?
Anyway, it depends on playstyle. We’re hyping boars, but a discerning reader will “get” why that is – and that we’re NOT saying ONLY boars. We’re saying boars are great and that you can’t go wrong with one. We’re also saying any pet will work. We’re also saying many other pets have other tremendous advantages. TRUTH: there is no best pet. The best pet is a boar. It’s a Zen thing. Go to petopia.
An even greater TRUTH: you have two stable slots. Park your main and try out other pets. See how YOU like them. Go with what is best and fun for YOU. GL!

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010Skinning/Leather vs. Engineering/Mining?
Monday, March 15th, 2010Quote:I think that Skinning and Mining would be alot more helpful for a Hunter, because i know the trinkets for Hunters from engen are good but if you are skinning/ leatherworking you can make your own full set of gear. But that is only my opion. See ya
That post made almost no sense, L2Type. As for the OPs question, personally, I took I used to have LW/Skinning but seeing the nice stuff in Engineering I switched to Later, since I had never leveled Mining at all [80 skill]. So seeing the nice armor sets in LW [some of the BoP] I went for Engineering/LW. But for you… If you decide to drop LW for Engineering, I wouldn’t drop Skinning for Mining. You already have Skinning up so high and really, you’ll be making more money with skinning than mining, giving you don’t have to go out of your way to gather ores with skinning and you’ll be able to purchase to Engineering Skills up with

Tracking bug, don’t tell Blizzard
Saturday, March 13th, 2010Used my humanoid tracker for a few hours today, didn’t get the bonus info… Darn!Azuarc wrote:

Did you not read my original post? I HAVE NO UI MODS INSTALLED. No, I have not seen this. The only time I have seen anything remotely resembling this was when something was tagged a creature type I didn’t think it should be, but that was working as intended.

GL HFOk, ever since last week’s updates my hunter’s tracking skill has been plagued with a wierd bug.
When I put on “Track Humanoids” and “Track Undead”, these mobs are tracked…with a little bit extra.
Animal type mobs are also showing up on my radar when Humanoid and Undead are still enabled. So I have both types of mobs dotting my radar at the same time.
LMAO. Now I can track Undead/Humanoid and Beast mobs at the same time. Oops!
Has anyone else experienced this? I’m really loathe to report this to Blizzard, because now I have upgraded tracking due to their crappy
And for the record, I have no UI mods installed-none whatsoever, so this goof-up is most likely a problem on Blizzard’s end.
Hunters and raiding
Thursday, March 11th, 2010Might have been a better idea to make 1 post to the WoW Main forum instead spamming all class forums with the same post.
But, I’ll be nice and give you some hints:
1) Build a motivated team
2) Gear up
3) Build a balanced raid group
For Karazhan you’ll need:
- 2 tanks (1 prot specced, 1 offensive / AOE tank)
- 3 healers (if you farm the instance, you can reduce to 2 healers, but for the start 3 are mandatory)
- 5 DDs
- time: raid Kara at least two days a week until you have managed to kill Arran/Prince
To make things easier bring >=1 priest (because of shakkle, fear, buff), >= 1 paladin(buffs ftw), >= 2 AOE classes (mage, warlock for some trash packs), few melee classes (although that is not that important anymore since the instance has been nerfed/adjusted for melee dps somewhat).
For Gruul you’ll need:
- 6-8 healers
- 3 tanks (plus one or two off tanks like feral druids or arms/fury warriors)
- heavy DPS
For the 1st Boss you will want ~8 healers till you beat the encounter.
For the 2nd Boss you do not want more than 7 healers, 6 are also sufficient. However you will need very strong DPS for this fight, so you have to gear up a lot.
-Hunter FAQ
SW 6/6; Thori’dal, the Stars’ Fury more bag space since Oct 28
My guild is about to start raiding Kharazan and Grulls lair. We have built the guild up since TBC to a suitable level where we have enough players to do so (through an aliiance). Only hardly any of us have raid experience other than UBRS (pre TBC) and that seems a long time ago.
My question to this forum is what a Hunter is expected to do in Raids. I know that talents can make a huge difference so maybe if you could say how certain talents can help within raids and specifically which talents you feel have no place in raids.
Also if you could give examples of things that you have done with your class or hints and tips that I could pass back to my guild members.,
Remember we are new to this so we are prepared for a lot of wipes and huge repair bills, but you??e got to start somewhere.
Thanks in Advance,
Quoreth, Turaylon EU server.

The Hunt
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010I realized I hadn’t gone on and on about Humar for a while, and it occured to me that I could share with you a chapter of a story I’ve written on my own guild’s forum. It is a bit taken out of context of the main story itself, but it is the version of me taming Humar. Chapter two of five, and I’ve not even finished chapter four and five yet. Anyhow, got bored, and decided I’d share it with you guys. This story takes place before the Horde had a solid hold on their outposts in Ashenvale.
-
There was little movement in the dark corners of the cell. The only sound was the skittering of the rats, and the rhythmic clink of metal against metal. Elliena wondered what the future held in store for her, while she absentmindedly toyed with the chain that shackled her to the wall. The defense of Ashenvale had been a disaster from day one. The Horde was simply too strong and too fast for the Astranaar defenders to hold. She wondered wether or not Astranaar still stood. Ah well, she had done her part, and more, the two days Ashenvale was still Night Elf territory. Well, her and Humar, she amended to herself as she let her eyes drift towards the Black Lion resting next to her.
Elune be praised that they allowed him to live, or she would be dead as well. Dying with her hands locked around the neck of his killer. She thought back to the day she first layed eyes on this magnificent creature. It was in Horde territory of all things.

BM Tree (Fun Thread)
Saturday, March 6th, 2010There’s a site that lets you build your own talent trees (just for kicks, mind you). I’m not talking about the wowhead talent builder, but where you can actually go in and design what you wish the talent trees would look like, or a joke for what it could look like to be supremely OP or nerfed. Anyway, I was just bored this morning so I thought I’d make a WotLK tree for hunters, and I’ve completed the BM tree. My goal was to make the trees more specialized, but also make the talents more viable (i.e. take some DPS off the hunter but give more DPS to the pet for BM, and make talents such as IAotM and Pathfinding more viable). I also had to add in a few talents to make up for the extra tiers. So tell me what you think of what I’ve got so far:
correcting a guildie
Friday, March 5th, 2010WoWwiki should also have the info (although you’d have to search a bit where it is)
And you can always say something like: “i wish strength would give me Ranged AP…”- God Emperor of Hunters and Priest Forum Mean Person.

I said str does nothing for me, he insisted it added to ap.
Now, this guy knows his rogue backwards and forwards, and I love this guild and didn’t want to step on any toes. So, how does one engage in a “does not! does too!” argument with any kind of dignity?
And, as much as I trust you guys, is there an official source I can quote that says agi is our stat of choice? “I know ’cause the internet told me so!” doesn’t thrill me as an argument.

Ranged Weapon?
Thursday, March 4th, 2010The reason a lot of Outlands Hunters use Xbows is becaue you get the Expidition Crossbow shortly after starting questing there, which is better than pretty much any ranged weapon you’ll have at the time. I believe you also get one in Nagrand as a quest reward, one of the first epics you’ll have if you start raiding will be the Steehawk Crossbow, and the PvP Xbow is also pretty common because it’s pretty good.
So they’re not better, they’re just – Blood Elf Death Knight
Peloquin – Troll Hunter
Cenobite – Undead Warlock
Znakharka – Draenei Shaman
Rasen – Night Elf Druid

no if anything guns is the way to go thx to the wolfslayer rifle in KZ, dont think i ever used a crossbow while leveling in outlands either. basicly use what you have/find/get during leveling.
crossbows arent better than guns/bows, the one diffrence is that crossbows is often slower than bows/guns. but slower isnt always better either so.(depends on spec and what you are gonna do pve or pvp)-Tindaar – lv70 NE
After 1,5 years of addiction i decided to quit in may(07). gave up trying and started playing again oct(07).

Owls Vs Bats?

Thank you! Bats have Bite, Owls have Claw.
Most hunters get flying pets for screech. Since claw/screech does not work too well together, Bite is the prefered talent to team up with Screech. With that info, the bats talents would seem the better choice.
Have you considered a Carrion Bird? They have slightly reduced damage but can learn bite and claw. Allowing much more customizing of abilities. And they have an innate improvement to armor.
Me personally, I used an owl. I used Dive, Screech, and Growl when soloing. I used Dive, and Claw when in a group. As always pick what you like 80 Blood Elf (SV/MM) Hunter
Issar 80 Blood Elf (Holy) Paladin
Rinkkel 80 Tauren (Feral) Druid
Agonize 80 Blood Elf (Frost) Death Knight
Bke 80 Tauren (Elemental) Shaman

Raessa 73 Blood Elf (Demo/Aff) Warlock
[Moo]
DrakaCould anyone tell me if there are any differences between owls and bats except diet? I checked petopia and there doesn’t seem like there are any, but I just wanted to make sure before taming a bat (want a change from my cat, hate ravagers and raptors, already have a windserpent), since I rarely see anyone with them and tons of people with owls. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tips for Cheeky’s Spreadsheet
Monday, March 1st, 2010I just started using this spreadsheet as I just hit level 70 not too long ago. It is not a super user friendly spreadsheet and was pretty overwhelming to me and I assume some others. Rather than take another topic off topic I figured it’d be best to start a new one. So this is for anyone who have questions on the spreadsheet as well as people who are familiar with it to offer tips. I am going to steal from the S2 topic that ProjectMidnight said.
