Treant Pet bar?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Quote:The person who posted this screenshot said it was from the WotLK beta forums, but I can’t double check that right now. Anyways, it looks like balance druids get a new pet bar for the treants…and from the looks of it in the picture, instead of three little resto tree-looking things, we get a huge ancestor-type tree.

fine-tuning cat opener

Monday, March 29th, 2010

on lower levels i became pretty accustomed to using the following opener (esp. for pve grinding):
/cast [combat] Shred
/castsequence [nostealth] Prowl; Pounce
/startattack

it first fades you into prowl, then pounces out and lets you pull off two shreds all by pressing a single key. in addition, it targets the nearest enemy at the very beginning.
in case you happen to be in combat already, it just targets nearest enemy/shreds.

with mangle though, the whole process gets a bit complicated and i can’t seem to be able to make it work 100 correctly. the best i got so far is this:
showtooltip
/castsequence reset=combat Prowl, Pounce, Mangle – Cat,
Shred, Faerie Fire (Feral)(), Mangle – Cat, Ferocious Bite
/startattack

by this i’m trying to: target the nearest enemy and switch to prowl by the first press, next pounce, mangle, shred (improved by the mangle), FFF (while there’s no energy (here i usually run away a bit from the mob to evade melee contact while waiting for the energy)), Mangle and finish off with FB.
the problem i’m trying to pin down is, that in some situations this macro does cast prowl but then it gets stuck, offering me only to again. so in reality, i happily prowl behind my target, press again to pounce and it pops me out of stealth and does nothing. ooops.
it would seem this happens when i start up the macro while there’s no enemy around. but it’s not 100. i simply can’t find out the pattern, when this fails.
as a bonus, i’d love to have this macro being able to branch out at the very end: finishing it off with alt for rip, shift for maim etc… though i doubt this is really possible.

well, thanks for any insights, i guess i’m not the only lazy ass trying to squeeze as many actions as possible under one keystroke.

soshould I feel bad about this?

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

First, some background. I’m in all blues except for a single epic, and unbuffed, except in tree, I have about 1330 SP, 15k mana, and 580/200-ish regen. I started healing heroics at around 1050 SP and in blues from the regular instances, and my first heroics were UP, UK, CoT, AN, and…one more I don’t remember. We did them all in a row, and had hardly any troubles (it was with the first group I talk about below). In fact, we pretty much steamrolled through them. I’ve since healed most of the heroics minus the two Ulduars and Gundrak, having little trouble unless the tank blew or dps wasn’t good enough. (I healed a pally with 460-ish defense and…I forgot how much, but not very much HP…through a heroic D’TK, which was rough, but fine once we got a rhythm down)
I’ve attempted two timed CoT runs. First time was with a group where our DK tank was in almost all blues, and our dps were: one in mostly blues and two in some epics (about half, I suppose). It was the first time trying a timed for all of us, so none of us knew where the special boss was, but we zoomed through and downed Mal’Ganis with a bit over a minute left, meaning we could’ve downed the drake boss had we known where he was.
2nd time, we wiped once, and had we hustled, we could’ve made it. We were short by a few minutes, but that was only because we didn’t think we could make it after wiping. When we realized we could’ve, it was too late.
Now, this time, I was in a group, and it would’ve been a great group. But
1) The DK tank had never been there. He didn’t really make any mistakes, but we probably lost a couple minutes from not hustling from one spot to the next as fast as we were capable of.
2) The mage would (I think unknowningly (e.g. no meters)) pull aggro on occasion
3) For speeds sake and to save me once, the ret pally would end up pulling aggro.
We wiped twice. Once because we had just downed Meatlame and were running to a more central location when the next group spawned on top of me, and the second at the 3rd boss when the DK said to stop dps. Reason? So we didn’t get aggro. He did Army of the Dead. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure they don’t taunt or attack friendly characters. Anyway, in my confusion, I die, but the DK and pally manage to down him. We ran out of time at the beginning of the alley after the bookshelf.
Few things I did wrong: Ran back after the first wipe instead of porting (didn’t know the gnome did that). Didn’t wait for pally rez after 2nd wipe (didn’t think they’d down him). Didn’t heal myself in time during 3rd boss (too confused by “Stop DPS”).
On average, the party(minus myself of course) was pulling around 1400 dps each.
Should I feel bad about us not making it? I was (I didn’t check gear, but from the way they were talking) presumably the only one in mostly blues. I think, however, had I not been having to heal the mage and pally so much, and had the tank been there before, we would’ve made it…

Profession question

Friday, March 26th, 2010

He’s right, there’s really no end-all-be-all profession
Really any of the main professions are going to be helpful in some way with better than normal enchants or etc.
JC is arguably the best for tanking, cause the dragon’s eyes prismatic gems help you fill otherwise “less than favorable” gem slots with excellent bonuses and still allow you to get the socket bonuses. are all good 2nd profs, really its your decision.- Cleets ~ 30Templar
Paracleets ~ 29Gladiator
Soyo ~ 19Cleric
Retired FFXI – Guitarhero & Rockband (formerly Fribaud) : /played 362 days.
Retired WoW – Paracleets, Paratotems, & Wheatle : /played 303 days.There is no profession that will give enough of an edge for any particular role to drop what you have already worked hard to gain. Blizzard has made an effort to make no profession a end all be all. So do what you enjoy because you enjoy it. -MoonlitStorm

Leveling as a druid 70-80

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

My additional thoughts are more along the lines of: what do you want to do at end game?
I only ask this because it seems you are still a little uncertain about how you want to play your druid. I’ve seen a lot of people who lacked direction at this point. They tried different specs, playstyles, etc. then ended up with a nearly unplayable character at 80 because they lacked end-game focus in the late 70s. No one wanted to take them into Heriocs because they couldn’t pull their weight in DPS and they only had 1/2 a healing set.
My advice? Now is the time to prepare. If you want to do PvE get into those instances, as DPS, tank, Heals, or whatever makes you happy; but try and choose 1 spec to play at 80 at first. Learn and prepare. Work on getting the mats to craft some level 80 epics. Get a good set of blues from the high-level regular instances. If you want to PvP, level some in the BGs and save the honor/marks to get some nice epic PvP gear.
You don’t want to be the newly dinged kitty doing 523 DPS in a herioc because you are mostly in quest gear, or getting creamed in PvP with 1 piece of resilience gear.
Of course, if this isn’t you my apologies for the miss-read, it’s just came to mind when reading your post. :-) -NO. You will NOT break the $& shackle! – Jilea

New tank set-up in old content.

So we gem for stamina now, screw agility, screw socked bonus and all that, right? Well I AM doing better on ICC trash ’cause i have an increase amount of HP. But what about old content? ToC, VoA and heroics, etc. I can really see the difference even in heroics. I usually have 45k HP with the minimum buffs you get from a heroic and i lose some big chunks of hp doing a miserable heroic. This of course scales when i tank VoA or ToC, kinda makes me feel weak as a tank.
Does any other druid tank notice this or is it just me? I think they should attune the old content (at least ToC, ToGC and VoA) to the new tanking mechanics. It doesn’t make sense to me to have tanks require a lot of stam only for ICC, then have them require avoidance for the rest of the previews raids. Or at least that’s how i feel…
Stam stacking got to be huge because of ToGC not ICC. Avoidance works really well on some ICC bosses.-Day light savings is for fools.

Max number of pets?

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

I like to have 2 long term pets and one spot open for junk pets. You never know when there’s going to be a new pet you want. Much less painful to just stable both pets and pick up a junker to get you to your tame spot.
This also allows you a chance to try various pets without the need to hit yourself upside the head for a bad swap. I learned that lesson after I swapped my star cat for a freaking “no hold hate” snap jaw…… The damn thing could not hold hate with anything even match or higher. Not to mention, it gets hard to level all of the pets so they keep up with your level.-Ayrianna 80 Nightelf Hunter – Queen of Typos

I’m sorry. But but if you have 3 pets, you can pretty much hang up the idea of ever learning any more pet skills.3 is the most you can have. 1 out with you and two in the
FFXI: DRK 55, WAR 30, THF 27, DRG 27 (all retired)
WoW: Hunter 70, Warrior 29, Druid 26, Warlock 22, Shaman 19 (all retired)
EQII: Shadowknight 36 (retired)
Back into FFXI while waiting for FFXIVWhat is the max number of pets a hunter can have at one time (cat and boar) but I really want a windserpent and dragonhawk. Is it possible to have more than 3? I don’t plan on dropping my cat but could part with the boar- reminds me too much of lion king.

Learning New Game Style of Play

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

I Have been reading several interesting post here and have wanted to improve on several aspects of my game overall in general. So, I figured I would ask and get several different opinions on style of play and than try them out to see what works best for me. SO, any non flame suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Now, I do have Trueshot aura in case your wondering and my build is like this 4/54/3
I like the IAotH as it seems to go off constantly.
Now my questions are this
1) What use is AoV over AotH? I dont see the mana regen that great of a bonus effect when in combat. Maybe I see to kill fast or what not.
2) Now i tend to start my shot rotation by going:

I need help vs. mages and warlocks

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Ok enough with hunters being overpowered.
I just don’t see it now since BC came out.
I need a new strategy against mages and warlocks.
I was ganked a few times last night by a 64 mage.
I’m a 63 MM hunter and was questing in Zangarmarsh.
What ticked me off most was the mages water elemental.
The elemental was hitting me for 800 damage a pop.
Add the mage frost bolt, frost nova, POM pyroblast I was dead.
I have ok gear, about 4500 hp. My pet has about 6500 hp.
It’s been a long time since I played my mage,
but when did they get pets?
Now they are almost as bad as warlocks and their axe weilding demons
and stackable dots.
My kitty, with bite and claw cannot out damage these.
Hunters need better damage for our pets or take away the focus needed to use these abilities. A pet with no focus is useless.
If the mage elemental is on a cooldown, so what, big deal.
How often is our pet going straight out killing?
I would not mind a cooldown between battles for our pet that deals damage at that level.
Besides the fact we have to keep them happy and fed.
What do the elementals and warlock pets eat??? (sarcasim here)
I have not played my mage or warlock at that level so maybe I’m ignorant.
Are their pets short term?
Do they have mana restrictions like our pet’s focus?
I wish our pets could hit for that kind of damage.
I get trashed everytime when facing these pets 1on1.
So what does a hunter focus on? The caster I assume.
But do I send pet against pet to draw off the extra damage
and work on caster myself?
Do I send pet on caster as well as me working on caster, in which case
their pet, insta cast spells and dot’s knock the stuffing out of me
Looks I might have to start leveling my mage or warlock on my PvP server.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Lvl 29 twink equipment?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Ranged Weapon= master hunters bow/gun
(quest line in STV) can start by 27 and requires help from a higher level. will put you at 29 if you start as early as possible
Shoulders = Forest Tracker Epaulets
(world drop)
Chest = tunic of westfall or defias chest or raptor harness or cutthroats vest of the monkey
(not best selection)(19 twink ones)(13 stam most stam you cna get)(my choice would be cutthroats, 9 stam and 9 agi, just a regular 29 green)
Back = tigerstrike mantle
(world drop)
Boots = defiler’s chain greaves
(pvp item from AB)
Finger = 2 legionare’s bands
(pvp item from wsg)
Neck = scout’s medallion
(pvp item from wsg)
Hands = fletcher’s gloves, Headhunter’s Mitts
(gives a ton of crit, from a 29 green)
Head = Pathfinder’s hat
(regular 29 green)
Legs = Triprunner dungarees
(quest for gnomergan)
Waist = Defiler’s chain girdle
(pvp item from AB)
Wrist = Barbaric bracers
(from leatherworker)
Melee weapons
for hard hitter with ok stats = Corpsemaker
(bop in RFK)
for pure stats = Butcher and scout’s blade
(World drop)(pvp item from wsg)
As a hint in order to get all these items you iwll need a high level friend
First get the gun/bow with help form high level
Then get high level to clear gnomer to boss you need for the triprunners
Then go in so you only get exp form the boss you need to kill
If you are going for corpsemaker use smae strategy in RFK
Next buy all the world drop items on the lsit
Finalyl pvp with any items you wnat to get the wsg and Ab pvp items.
